Pärnu & Flavours of West Estonia – Day Trip from Tallinn
Discover Estonia's countryside, local flavours and its famous Summer Capital
Leave Tallinn behind for a day and discover another side of Estonia on a journey through the peaceful countryside to Pärnu – Estonia's best-known seaside resort and Summer Capital.
This full-day Food Sightseeing experience combines local food and drink producers, rural Estonia, history and the relaxed atmosphere of Pärnu. Along the way, we'll visit two small local producers before spending the afternoon discovering Pärnu's historic centre, colourful resort district and long sandy beach.
It is more than simply a day trip to Pärnu – it is an opportunity to experience how Estonia changes as we travel from the capital through small towns and countryside towards the country's west coast.
Tour highlights
Travel through rural Estonia via Rapla and Vändra
Leaving Tallinn, we'll take the inland route towards Pärnu through small towns, villages, forests and agricultural landscapes, giving you a glimpse of everyday Estonia outside the capital.
Visit Piesta Kuusikaru Farm
Our first food stop takes us to a small family-run farm near Vändra, where apples are turned into natural juices and other local products.
We'll hear the story of the farm and its production, taste some of their apple products and have a little time to look around their cosy farm café and shop.
Visit Tori Cider Farm
We continue towards Tori and the edge of the Soomaa region for a short visit to a local cider farm.
During our approximately 30-minute stop we'll learn a little about Estonian cider and fruit-wine production and enjoy some light tastings accompanied by a small snack.
From here it is only a short drive to our main destination – Pärnu.
Pärnu – Estonia's Summer Capital
Pärnu has been attracting visitors as a seaside and spa resort for almost two centuries, but there is much more to the town than its famous beach.
During our visit we'll discover different faces of Pärnu – from its historic centre and medieval past to elegant wooden villas, parks, spa architecture and the Baltic Sea.
Light 2-course lunch
After arriving in Pärnu we'll enjoy a light 2-course lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant.
The exact menu can vary according to the season and restaurant, but our aim is to introduce contemporary local flavours while leaving enough room for the tastings enjoyed earlier during the day.
Bread and table water are included.
Additional alcoholic beverages, soft drinks and coffee or tea can be ordered at your own expense.
Historic Pärnu
After lunch we'll explore the historic centre on foot.
Along the way you'll hear stories about Pärnu's development from a medieval trading town into one of Estonia's most important resort destinations and discover some of the landmarks that have survived its long and sometimes turbulent history.
Depending on opening times and the final programme, our visit can also include Punane Torn – the Red Tower, the oldest surviving medieval building in Pärnu.
We'll continue through the old town towards Tallinn Gate and Vallikäär before gradually leaving historic Pärnu behind and entering a very different part of town.
From historic town to seaside resort
Pärnu's character changed dramatically when sea bathing, spas and summer holidays became fashionable.
We'll stroll through the resort district with its parks, colourful wooden villas and historic spa architecture and make our way along Supeluse Street towards the seaside.
Here you'll discover why generations of Estonians have associated Pärnu with summer holidays, beach life and a slower pace of life.
Pärnu Beach
Our Pärnu experience finishes at its most famous landmark – the long sandy beach and seaside promenade.
Depending on the weather and pace of the day, there will also be a little free time for a walk along the beach, photographs or a coffee before we begin our journey back to Tallinn.
